High blood pressure: DASH every day, no drama.

Sodium capped by default, fruit and vegetables as the pivot, the DASH method applied recipe by recipe. 500+ filtered recipes. Budday complements your medical care, it does not replace it.

Not a medical device. Diagnosing and monitoring high blood pressure remain the responsibility of your doctor and your cardiologist. Budday complements them, it never steps in for them.

4 things we do specifically.

Low GI

Sodium capped by default.

Sodium is the number one lever on blood pressure. Our filter guarantees you less than 5 g of salt per day (the WHO target) across all your meals. Individual recipes show their sodium in mg so you can steer, not guess.

Macros

Macro ratio DASH style.

The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) recommends a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free dairy and nuts. Our filtering applies this ratio by default, without you having to do the maths at every plate.

Portions

Portions calibrated to your target blood pressure.

Portions take your goal into account (weight loss is often part of it). We adjust your total calorie intake to your weight, your activity and your medication. No hidden overdosing.

Substitutions

Substitutions low in sodium.

For every recipe that includes deli meat, aged cheese or jarred sauce, we offer a tested low-sodium swap (lean ham, ricotta, homemade sauce). No swap that puts your blood pressure at risk.

Foods + tracked parameters

What we filter, what we watch.

Sources: Société Française d'Hypertension Artérielle (SFHTA), HAS, ANSES, WHO (sodium target 5 g/day).

Foods to limit

  • Added salt and salty foods · deli meats, aged cheeses, soy sauces, industrial stock cubes
  • Ready meals · NOVA 4 classification, carton soups, pizzas, frozen dishes
  • Salty snacks · crisps, savoury party biscuits, salted peanuts
  • Excess alcohol · 2 drinks max per day, never on an empty stomach
  • Liquorice and "energy" drinks · direct blood-pressure-raising effect

Tracked parameters

  • Systolic / diastolic pressure · self-measurement over 3 days / 3 readings morning and evening
  • Daily sodium · estimated from your food log
  • Weight and waist circumference · markers of overall cardiovascular risk
  • Physical activity · 150 min / week WHO target, cardio-led
  • Sleep · sleep apnoea = aggravating factor
And exercise

Gentle cardio, kept in check with your blood pressure.

Regular physical activity lowers blood pressure by 4-9 mmHg on average (the equivalent of half a blood-pressure tablet). The WHO recommends 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity for an adult with high blood pressure: spread over 4 to 5 days.

The Budday exercise plan favours progressive cardio (brisk walking, cycling, swimming, water aerobics) while avoiding sudden pressure spikes. If you do strength training, we calibrate the loads to avoid the breath-holding (Valsalva) that pushes pressure up.

  • Moderate cardio · brisk walking 30 min × 5 / week, flat cycling
  • Controlled strength work · moderate loads, continuous breathing
  • Avoid · pure HIIT, maximal loads, intense sauna
  • Buddy counts · reps, breathing, adapts the session live

The 5 g of salt per day rule

The WHO recommends less than 5 g of salt per day (equivalent to 2 g of sodium). One portion of industrial baguette = 1 g of salt. One portion of ham = 1 g. One aged cheese = 1.5 g. Very quickly, even without cooking salt, you go over the target. Our filter keeps the count for you.

The DASH method in 1 minute

DASH = Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The benchmark American study since 1997. The principle: rich in fruit and vegetables (8-10 portions/day), whole grains, fat-free dairy, nuts, fish. Low in sodium, added sugars and red meat. Proven effect on blood pressure in 2 to 4 weeks.

Not a medical device

The app does not replace your doctor or your cardiologist. It complements. Diagnosis, drug treatment (ACE inhibitors, ARBs, diuretics, beta-blockers), and clinical follow-up (blood pressure, ECG, echocardiogram) remain their domain. You can export your tracking as an encrypted PDF.

Morning fasted weigh-in

If you weigh yourself as part of monitoring your blood pressure (weight loss is often recommended), do it in the morning upon waking, fasted (06:30-08:00). This is also the time for self-measuring your blood pressure if your doctor has prescribed it.

Not a medical device

Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of any condition remain the responsibility of your doctor and specialist. Budday complements, never replaces.

Recipes and tracked parameters are indicative, based on public recommendations (HAS, ANSES, specialised learned societies).

Frequent questions

What we get asked the most.

Still looking for an answer? Write to us.

Is this adaptation permanent?
As long as your condition stays declared in your profile, yes. Recipe filtering, macro calibration, substitutions, all of it keeps applying without you having to restate it. You can switch it off whenever you want in Settings.
Do you replace my doctor?
No. Budday is not a medical device: we complement, we never replace. Diagnosis, treatment and clinical follow-up stay with your doctor and your specialist. We help you apply their guidance day to day.
What if I have several conditions to manage?
We combine them without breaking anything. Type-2 diabetes + gluten-free, cholesterol + lactose intolerance, tree-nut allergy + vegetarian: every combination is handled at once in the menu calibration and the swaps we suggest.
Your sources, what are they?
For each condition: public guidelines from HAS, ANSES, learned societies (Société Francophone du Diabète, AFDIAG, and more) and recent peer-reviewed studies. No isolated opinion, no sponsored advice. The sources are cited on every condition page.
